40 Day Transformations

Instances in the Bible where God made major changes
and transformations after the period of 40

It rained for 40 days and 40 nights when God wanted to cleanse the world and start over.
(Gen 7:12 KJV) And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

Noah waited another 40 days after it rained before he opened a window in the Ark.
(Gen 8:6 KJV) And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:

Embalming required 40 days (although this was an Egyptian custom, the Egyptians recognized the period of 40 for the preparation of going into a new life, what they called the afterlife)
(Gen 50:3 KJV) And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.

Moses was on the mountain with God for 40 days (TWICE)
(Exo 24:18 KJV) And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
(Exo 34:28-29 KJV) And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.
(Deu 10:10 NIV) Now I had stayed on the mountain forty days and nights, as I did the first time, and the LORD listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you.

Moses’ face shone after the 40 days on the mountain.
(Exo 34:29 KJV) And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

It took the spies 40 days to search out the promised land and bring back fruit
(Num 13:25 KJV) And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

Goliath came for forty days before being killed by David

(1 Sam 17:16 NLT) For forty days, twice a day, morning and evening, the Philistine giant strutted in front of the Israelite army.

(1 Ki 19:8 KJV) And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

Jonah warned the City of Nineveh they had 40 days until God would overthrow the city. The people repented in those 40 days and God spared the city.
(Jonah 3:4 and 10 KJV) And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness
(Mat 3:17 KJV) And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

(Acts 1:3 NIV) After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

In 40 days Jana and Jorge will join in marriage after a lifetime of searching for one another.

(1 Corinthians 13:4-7) Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.

44 days… Strange monday.

flies

So its been a while. Lots of things are happening so lets do the run down:

Fancy cat: Well my fancy cat has a fancy condition. Turns out his “lineage” gave him kidney cysts. For now theyre not a problem but the vet said in no short terms that this will be a thing latter on. For now he is his old cat self. Meaning selfish, proud, entitled and awesome. I love him. Im so happy he is ok.

Lord of the flies. The last three or four days we have had an INFESTATION of flies. I mean Biblical proportions. So i got some fly paper. The person who invented the “lets put some glue to catch stuff” approach to vermin is a sadist. I got a bunch of flies and two lizards. I feel like a monster. Im getting a swapper.

Bestmanless: Well no way to say this except that my best man and second best man will not be attending the wedding in WA next month. They both have work issues and cant make it. So no one from my family is going to the wedding. I totally didn’t have a problem with this i mean im not thrilled but i figured there are bigger things going on that day. I was concerned however at how Jana would take it. You know with the brides maids and the symmetry and all. She took it well but was really sad for me.

Elections: Panama had elections. No one expected the guy who won to win. Really curious to see where all this goes.

Kids camp: Went as a volunteer to kids camp with Jana and a bunch of people. It was amazing. The Lord gave us all an amazing message and the kids had a blast.

Well that’s the last few weeks in a nutshell. Sorry for the “cold journalistic approach”.

Hope you all have an amazing day!!!

When Did You Know? 53 days to go!

Image

I was asked a series of questions by my roommate with the instructions that I was not to ask any questions about what it was for and had a “please complete and return” bit of instruction to it too. Most of the questions were easy peasy lemon squeezy. Do I prefer pie and ice cream or cake and ice cream? Cake and ice cream, of course. There were some that were a bit harder. When I got to the last question though, When did you know you wanted to marry George? I had to think, really think about it. Here is (roughly) what I came up with.

I don’t really know why I feel like this is such a loaded question. I fell in love with him in the first cat conversation. I didn’t realize that is what it was yet. On our first date we talked about how we weren’t looking to date just for the sake of dating so that was my kind of end goal from the start. It was where we wanted to work toward – but that is different than KNOWING. There was that period of time when we were trying to just be friends but every conversation just made it harder and harder. I knew then that it would be impossible for me to just be friends with him and we talked about how we might just have to stop talking altogether and scrap any idea of a friendship because it would never be enough for us. We honestly almost walked away from knowing each other at all thinking that we couldn’t be more than friends. I guess it was during that period. I knew I couldn’t just know him. There was no defining moment. When we came back into reality admitting that yes, we still like each other, it was cemented and I knew for sure then that we were going to get married. It was just a matter of time then. We still took very precious care of things. We knew how delicate the situation could be and I swear I’ve loved him forever. I was born loving him. I just didn’t know who he was yet and I tried to place the love on other guys but it never fit. How else would a 20 minute long conversation about cats end up with a girl walking down the aisle? I know him so well and he knows me so well. I’ve never bought into that whole “soul mates” business before but there really is a special bond that we share and I really feel all of those sickening cliches… Like he is my other half, I knew I loved him before I knew him, yada yada… I used to roll my eyes at that sort of stuff. Now it gives me butterflies. I can feel old me holding back a laugh and a gag when I say that what we have is what love songs are made of. We say that it feels like God took one person, broke them into 2 pieces and put one of them in Panama and held on to the other for 8 more years (George says it’s because that piece was so precious that God wasn’t ready to let go yet – He is so sweet.) and then he put that piece in Washington. We had to grow and experience bits of life separately so that when we were finally brought together we would realize how absolutely sweet it was. We would see how clearly blessed we are. There was a very specific flow of events that brought us together and it is IMPOSSIBLE for it have been anything other than God deciding that it was time for the two pieces to join back together as one. The night he told me he loved me there were fireworks. Literally, booming, sparkling fireworks going off in the sky. It was like a movie. The very next day, our wedding was almost completely planned. We didn’t know when or where or things like that but it was sealed. It was just a matter of time before all the details were complete and my mom was sending out invitations. When did I first know that I wanted to marry George? I’ve known my whole life.

Thank you God for this amazing man. (Aside from my daddy) George is the best man I know. I’m honored to (in 53 days) call him my husband!

Breaking and Entering

Turns out there is no key to the bedroom door at the new place. And it’s easy to accidentally push the button on the inside. With the cat locked in.

We got to take the door off the hinges! The guys were pulling screens in the windows and they were kind enough to assist.

We got the door off and unlocked and we were reunited with Nugget!
We blocked the latch for the door so that we won’t be caught in the same position until we are able to get a new door knob.

It was an exciting way to start the Thursday.

62 days… Like a blurr!

Hello, hello!

Yesterday we spoke via FaceTime to my future mother- and father-in-law and my future dad asked a question that shook me, “So how many followers do you have on your blog?”… In the middle of all the insanity of the past week and a half, I had COMPLETELY forgotten about you guys. I am completely certain that you are the source of many of our blessings. You, who read this blog, were left hanging a week an half ago with the “Where are we going to live?” situation. Well first, let me thank you for all your prayers. Sincerely, we would not be here without them. Next, I want to apologize for the lack of posts. Now let me fill you in on the most important headlines.

1-WE MOVED!
By “we” I mean “I.” Jana won’t be moving in until after we get married. This means LOTS of driving back and forth but the awesome news is that she lives now a FRACTION of the distance she lived before. In retrospect I have no idea how I managed and afforded to live so far away from here. You see, Jana and the Church are in the same neighborhood, part of the Old Panama Canal zone. I lived CLEAR across town. Something like 30 miles away (in good traffic). The place is fantastic. I’m including some pictures. As you will see, we were able to bring my cat. It’s a one bedroom bottom floor of a house conditioned to be a small apartment. We are sooo blessed to be able to live in this area.

2- The cat can.t poo
I know it’s a total tangent from the great news but I figured I’d write what’s on my mind. I think the cat dislikes the litter we got for him. He is doing this “constipated” looking thing where he sits and nothing happens. Sorry to share this but hey, it’s stuff that’s going on!

3- Measured for tux
Last night Jana measured me for the tux. It’s exciting to think we are getting married. TOTALLY surreal. The date is getting closer and we really need your prayers again for funds. With the new apartment saving has become most difficult, so please if you can help us out in prayer that would ROCK.

4-It’s hot
Rain season is here! Meaning IT’S HOT and humid. The transition from dry to rain brings HORRIBLE humidity. It’s like breathing water all the time. Good news is the mornings are cool.

5- Elections!
Panama is holding elections in a week. That’s it.

6-Chili comes in a can
OMGosh chili comes in a can. This totally changed my life.

Well its 7:45 am on Sunday so I’m getting ready to get ready to go pick Jana up for church. Please continue praying for us. It is the most powerful form of support. However if you feel inclined to make a donation we wont get mad. Promise.

May the Lord bless and keep you all!
